Od dnia przylotu dopiero teraz udało mi się uzyskać dostęp do internetu na komputerze, także postaram się w najbliższych dniach opisać wszystko, co się od tego czasu wydarzyło. A jest tego odrobina.

Lot z Doha do Kuala Lumpur upłynął mi całkiem przyjemnie, obejrzałam zabawną komedię pt. „Stulatek, który wyskoczył przez okno i zniknął”, taką szwedzką wersję Forresta Gumpa. Mimo, że pomysł nieco wtórny to szwedzka specyfika i nieudolność większości bohaterów nadaje temu wszystkiego dodatkowego smaczku.  Po przylocie wszystko poszło bardzo sprawnie, celnik nie zadał mi ani jednego pytania tylko dał wizę na 90 dni, na bagaz też prawie nie musiałam czekać. Przy wyjściu czekaly na mnie Mirjam – koordynatorka ds. praktykantów w GMI i moja partnerka w projekcie – Sannah. Poszłyśmy jeszcze coś zjeść, przy czym ja napilam się tylko mango smoothie, gdyż bylam zapchana samolotowym jedzeniem. Wymieniłam też sobie trochę pieniędzy i kupiłam kartę prepaid. Mój malezyjski numer to:

Później Mirjam zawiozła nas do naszego mieszkania w GMI, trochę to trwało, gdyż jest to odleglość ok 40 km. Mój adres w Malezji to:

Nie jest to same Kuala Lumpur (nazywane tutaj skrótowa KL), ale znajduje się na terenie agomeracji miejskiej stolicy Malezji. Nazwa naszego miasteczka to Kajang. Oprócz GMI  czyli German Malaysian Institute jest tutaj też siedziba innego uniwersytetu, osiedla mieszkalne i klub golfowy. Dojeżdża tutaj kolejka miejska KTM, którą możemy dojechać do samego centrum KL.

Mieszkamy w czteropokojowym mieszkaniu – mamy salon, kuchnię z jadalnią, taras, dwa balkony, trzy sypialnie i trzy łazienki. Także bardzo dużo przestrzeni. Na razie mieszkamy tu tylko we dwójkę – Sannah i ja, ale w październiku ma do nas dolączyć następna praktykantka. Mój pokój ma chyba z 20 m kwadratowych, także jest bardzo przestronny.  Jedyny mankament to zupełny brak ciepłej wody, ale ponoć w całej Malezji jest to standard. Mamy też zwisające z sufitu wentylatory, które sprawiają, że można znieść wysokie temperatury i wysoką wilgotność powietrza.

From my arrival until now I've had no proper internet access, and just recently managed to get internet to work on my computer. So I will try to describe everything that happened in the last few days. And it is quite a bit.

The flight from Doha to Kuala Lumpur was quite nice, I watched a funny comedy " The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared", a Swedish version of Forrest Gump. Although the idea is somewhat secondary, the Swedish specificity and incompetence of most of the characters gives it some extra flavor. At immigration everything went very smoothly, the border officer didn’t asked me a single question and gave me a visa for 90 days. I also didn’t have to wait for my luggage. Mirjam - the trainee coordinator at GMI and my project partner Sannah were waiting for me at the exit. We went to eat something; I just had a mango smoothie because I was still stuffed with airplane food. I exchanged some money and bought a prepaid phone card. My Malaysian number is:

Mirjam took us to our apartment at GMI. It took a while, because it is a distance of about 40 km. My address in Malaysia is:

We don’t live in Kuala Lumpur (they just call it KL here), but our town is located in the urban agglomeration of the capital city of Malaysia. The name of our town is Kajang. In addition to GMI there is also another university here, there are some housing settlements and a golf club. Nearby is a UKM station from which we can take KTM city train which can take us into the heart of KL.

We live in a three bedroom apartment - we have a living room, kitchen with a dining area, terrace, two balconies, three bedrooms and three bathrooms. So it is pretty spacoius. Right now only the two of us live here - Sannah and I, but in October another intern at GMI will join us. My room is probably the size of about 20 square meters. The only drawback is the complete lack of hot water, but apparently it is the standard in the whole of Malaysia. We also have ceiling fans that help withstand the high temperature and high humidity.

Tomorrow I'll try to take some pictures of the campus and put it on the blog.
