As
I wrote before, our apartment is very spacious. We live in a staff building at GMI. Our apartment is on
the eighth floor, luckily we have
a lift. Mostly we
spend time on the balcony because
it is the coolest place in the apartment. As you look outside you can
see the opposite wing of the
building and a football pitch.
The blue buildings in the distance belong to the GMI as well.
Although we have a kitchen, we are not able to cook anything more than water for tea, because we have no oven or stove. So we can only eat for lunch what the student canteen offers. At the campus, there are four canteens, and lunch costs from 2.40 RM onwards. At the moment the most I paid was 4 RM. In general, we have no idea how they calculate the price, because there is simply a buffet and you can put on your plate as much as you want. Maybe someday someone will explain it to us, as it certainly doesn’t depend on the number of different kinds of dishes on the plate. In any case, prices are so low that it makes no sense to invest in any equipment for cooking. Besides, all the food has to be kept in the fridge, because apparently ants are able to bite through every packaging.
Last weekend I was able to buy a mosquito net and installed it over my bed. Now I don’t have to completely cover myself with bedsheets to not be eaten by mosquitoes at night. And it's so hot at night (despite the working ceiling fan) that I prefer to sleep without covering myself with anything.

The
apartment is very quiet, only that three times a day we hear some
prayers coming from a nearby
mosque, but it is far enough away that it doesn’t really disturb us. Usually they start singing at six o'clock in
the morning, but I have never been
awakened by it so far. Later they also pray around noon and in
the evening
about seven o’clock.
