We zeszły wtorek mieliśmy wolne ze względu na święto - Dzień Malezji. Postanowiliśmy wybrać się na plażę. My, czyli ja i Sannah i dwóch innych niemieckich praktykantów w GMI - Thomas i Jonathan. Dwie godziny drogi od GMI znajduje się Port Dickson, jest on położony na zachodnim brzegu Półwyspu Malajskiego. Na zdjęciach widać wszędzie jakby mgłę, nie jest to specyficzne dla tego regionu, ale od paru dni powietrze tak właśnie wygląda. Nasz szef wytłumaczył nam, że przez parę tygodni na Sumatrze są wypalane drzewa palmowe i dym unosi się aż tu na wybrzeże i do nas do GMI.

Przed południem łazilismy trochę po miasteczku i siedzieliśmy na kamienistej plaży, na obiad byliśmy w świetnej japońskiej restauracji, gdzie był buffet z sushi. Rewelacja! A po południu udaliśmy się na oddaloną o kilkanaście kilometrów plażę Blue Lagoon (musieliśmy wziąć taksówkę). Woda w morzu była bardzo ciepła i przez około 200 metrów od brzegu bardzo płytka. Idealne miejsce dla dzieci, ale do pływania trochę średnie, zwłaszcza, że piaszczyste dno kończyło się, gdy zaczynało się robić odrobinę głębiej i były tam bardzo dosyć ostre kamienie. Port Dickson to miejsce, do którego udają się głównie miejscowi, nie ma go np. w naszych przewodnikach po Malezji. Także na plaży nie było żadnych kobiet w kostiumach kąpielowych, większość wchodziła do wody w pełnym ubraniu. Także my w kostiumach i tylko t-shircie czy sweterku w moim przypadku (zapomniałam zabrać koszulki do kąpieli) prezentowałyśmy się w miarę odważnie.

Blue Lagoon Beach

Last Tuesday we had a day off because of Malaysia Day. We decided to go to the beach. We, that means me, Sannah and two other German interns at GMI - Thomas and Jonathan. Port Dickson is about a two hour drive from GMI, on the western shore of the Malay Peninsula. In the pictures you can see this haze everywhere. It is not specific to this region, but the air has been looking like that for a few days already. Our boss explained to us that for a few weeks in Sumatra palm trees are burned out and smoke floats up here to the coast and even reaches us in GMI.

Before noon we walked around this little town and sat on the pebble beach for a while. For lunch, we went to a great Japanese restaurant where there was a sushi buffet. Awesome food! And in the afternoon we drove a few miles away to a nicer beach, Blue Lagoon (we had to take a taxi). The water in the sea was very warm and for about 200 meters from the shore very shallow. An ideal place for children, but not so great for swimming, especially since the sandy ground ended when it was starting to getting a little deeper and there were very fairly sharp stones on the ground. Port Dickson is a place where mostly locals go. You won't find this place in our guides about Malaysia. So there were no women in bathing suits on the beach, most of them entered the water fully clothed. As we wore bikinis and only a t-shirt or sweater in my case (I forgot to take an extra t-shirt to swim) we presented ourselves rather courageously.
